Recently, in a primary school in Ruian, Zhejiang Province, a teacher has been accused of physically assaulting a 10-year-old student and even threatening to throw him out of the window. Following the incident, the Ruian Education Bureau responded by acknowledging that the teacher in question did indeed engage in inappropriate disciplinary actions. Lin was given administrative detention as a result of the incident.
On May 18, the Ruian Education Bureau announced that the student involved had used a water gun to shoot at Lin. Lin had inappropriately punished the student, resulting in a disciplinary warning and a formal investigation. The police have administratively detained the teacher in question.
According to reports from mainland China, the teacher involved, surnamed Lin, teaches mathematics at Zhongxin Primary School in Mayu Town, Ruian, and is 59 years old. Rang Rang (pseudonym), a 10-year-old student in the school’s fourth grade, was reportedly disciplined by Lin, as captured in a video, which went viral recently.
A netizen who shared the video wrote that on April 17 during the after-school rest time, “because the child accidentally splashed the teacher with the water gun, the teacher slapped the child in public, grabbed his neck, and finally pushed him towards the window threateningly.” The footage showed a man lifting a boy to the window edge in the hallway outside the classroom.
In response to his actions that day, Lin admitted to misconduct and mentioned that he had been interviewed twice by the Education Bureau after the incident. He also visited Rang Rang’s home with the principal to explain the situation to the parents and apologize. “Now that the parents have reported to the police and the Education Bureau has intervened and examined the injuries, it is my responsibility, and I will not shirk it.”
On May 17, Mr. Chen, Rang Rang’s father, mentioned that after the incident, due to the delayed response from the school, he had reported the matter to the government service hotline.
Mr. Chen stated that while the teacher did visit their home, he did not believe it was for an apology. Furthermore, Mr. Chen expressed that he did not accept any apology.
On May 18, the Ruian Education Bureau released a situation report confirming the authenticity of the video. On the afternoon of April 17, during a mathematics class, student Chen used a water gun to spray water at teacher Lin’s face. In response, Lin subjected the student to inappropriate discipline, threatening the student’s physical safety. Lin was given a warning, and the school principal was advised to have a conversation with him. Additionally, the police department initiated an investigation and administratively detained Lin.
