On Wednesday (May 7), officials in Indonesia stated that a dump truck collided with a small bus on a steep road in Central Java province, Indonesia, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to 6 others. The victims were all kindergarten teachers.
The fatal accident occurred around 11 am on Wednesday. A truck loaded with construction materials collided with a small bus and then crashed into a house in the Kalijambe village in the Purworejo area.
Local disaster management authorities mentioned in a statement that the small bus was carrying a group of teachers from the Magelang region.
After the incident, several ambulances transported the bodies of the deceased and the injured to nearby hospitals. The injured included the truck driver and the owner of the house that was hit.
Andry Agustiano, the police chief of the Purworejo area, said, “It is alleged that the truck lost control and hit the small bus.” He added that the police immediately initiated an investigation.
Due to poor safety standards and infrastructure, road traffic accidents are frequent in Indonesia.
On Tuesday (May 6), a bus carrying 34 passengers overturned uncontrollably in West Sumatra province, Indonesia, resulting in at least 12 deaths.
Last year, a bus carrying 61 students and teachers collided with cars and motorcycles due to brake failure while on the way, causing the death of 11 students and injuries to dozens.
