Hong Kong’s “Epoch Times” Relaunch VIP Remarks

Hong Kong’s Epoch Times weekend edition’s physical newspaper relaunch is a commendable and respectable feat in today’s environment where freedom of speech and press freedom have been greatly restricted to an “unimaginable” extent. Despite the challenges, Epoch Times has chosen to steadfastly defend the values of freedom, which is truly moving.

Freedom of the press is the cornerstone of modern society, as well as an essential safeguard for democracy and human rights. However, in Hong Kong, a land once renowned for its freedom, the media space has rapidly shrunk. From the closure of the Apple Daily to self-censorship by multiple media outlets, journalists face increasing challenges and the risk of unwittingly crossing the red line. In such an environment, any media outlet that persists in reporting accurately and conveying the truth undoubtedly faces immense pressure and risks.

The relaunch of Epoch Times weekend edition is a genuine embodiment of upholding press freedom. It is not just a newspaper but a continuation of belief, symbolizing courage and hope. In today’s Hong Kong, the commitment to reporting truthfully and revealing facts transcends the meaning of news itself; it is a challenging struggle to voice freedom.

As the Bible once said, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” In Hong Kong’s “mutated” reality, Epoch Times staff members exemplify this. They navigate challenges with agility, maintaining inner gentleness and perseverance, to continue forward with wisdom and belief.

We extend our highest respect to all the staff at Hong Kong’s Epoch Times and congratulate the successful relaunch of the weekend edition. May your efforts illuminate more light in this city, bringing hope to those who uphold truth and freedom. Despite the difficult road ahead, we believe that the light of truth will eventually illuminate the darkness, much like dawn always comes.

Delighted to hear the news of the relaunch of Hong Kong’s Epoch Times weekend edition. Earlier, upon learning of the cessation of physical newspapers for various reasons, it was anticipated that Epoch Times would not be discouraged by difficulties and pressures but would double its efforts to overcome obstacles and meet readers again. Epoch Times staff have once again displayed unwavering determination, which is admirable. Here’s to congratulating Epoch Times on further progress and providing readers with more diverse information.

Received news of the relaunch of Epoch Times’ physical newspaper weekend edition while watching “Squid Game.” At the same time, another cinema announced its closure.

Technology drives trends, and humanity often finds it challenging to resist the evolution of trends. Whether it be the publishing industry or the cinema industry facing similar circumstances, it is challenging to return to past peaks, if not struggling for survival. However, it is not just for nostalgia but also as global harmonization occurs, and human tastes seem to converge, the need for a diverse range is more crucial, allowing audiences with different needs to have the space and opportunity to choose without being forced to follow the tide. It is rare to see dedicated individuals continuing to strive for physical publications, deserving not only support but also admiration.

Here’s to wishing that Epoch Times’ daily editions from Monday to Friday may also relaunch in the near future.

In this chaotic era, having a media outlet that truly speaks for the people of Hong Kong is particularly valuable, and Epoch Times’ efforts undoubtedly show us hope and strength. Sincerely wishing Hong Kong’s Epoch Times continued success in inspiring hearts with the truth and injecting justice into society!

Amidst the challenges, continue to breathe in every breath of free air and guard every inch of the battleground of public opinion.

Last weekend (December 21), while busy at home, a friend informed me, “Epoch Times’ physical newspaper edition is back, and this time, it features your article.” I was surprised: Epoch Times’ weekend edition has returned, with the editorial team informing me a couple of days earlier, but they didn’t mention my column that was originally scheduled for Wednesday being included in the “relaunch issue.” The same edition also featured articles by Wu Lumin and Leung King-cheung. It is truly an honor for me to be included in Epoch Times’ “relaunch issue.”

I recall writing a farewell when Epoch Times stopped printing physical newspapers, and to see the efforts of colleagues in the newsroom bringing back the print edition within three months is truly a blessing for Hong Kong. Hong Kong needs newspapers that speak out, and Hong Kong needs Epoch Times.

Choosing to relaunch on December 21 holds significance. It’s the winter solstice, the day with the shortest daylight of the year, and following the winter solstice, the days start to lengthen as the night shortens, known as “the birth of Yang after the winter solstice.” With the gradual increase of Yang energy, everything is filled with vitality as spring returns to the earth.

Wishing Epoch Times’ physical newspaper spreads its wings once again and continues to speak for the people of Hong Kong!

“Epoch Times weekend edition relaunch” is certainly worth celebrating. Let me share a small story here. Since the cessation of free Epoch Times (Hong Kong), my junior schoolmates have mostly been sharing real-life stories online about the last day of printing the online version of Epoch Times with their friends through instant messaging software. Regardless of whether their friends are in Hong Kong or travelling overseas, Epoch Times has become vital spiritual nourishment for many Hongkongers in their daily stifling lives. Therefore, I believe that there are still many Hongkongers in Hong Kong living steadfastly in their ways, just as Epoch Times persists in upholding the spirit of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Congratulations on the relaunch of the Epoch Times weekend edition!

In this disordered world, having a media outlet that speaks out for Hong Kong people is particularly valuable, and Epoch Times’ efforts undoubtedly show us hope and strength. Wishing Hong Kong’s Epoch Times continued success in inspiring hearts with the truth and injecting justice energy into society!

Continue to strive, breathe in every breath of free air, and guard every inch of the battleground of public opinion.
