Former Mayor of Lhasa, Tibet, Guoguo, expelled from the Chinese Communist Party a year and a half after falling from power.
According to official reports from Tibet, on December 20-21, the 7th plenary session of the 10th Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Tibet Autonomous Region approved the review report on Guoguo’s serious violations of discipline and law by the Tibet Discipline Inspection Commission, and affirmed the decision to expel Guoguo from the CPC.
However, officials did not disclose the details of Guoguo’s expulsion from the party.
On June 23, 2023, it was announced that Guoguo, former Party Secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Region Market Supervision Administration, was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and was under investigation.
Public records show that Guoguo, a Tibetan male born in October 1967 in Mozhugongka, Tibet, joined the CPC in June 1992 and started working in May 1984. Guoguo held various positions in Lhasa, including Director of the Lhasa Tourism Bureau, County Mayor of Nimu, Deputy Mayor of Lhasa, Standing Committee Member of the Lhasa Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of Chengguan District Committee. In June 2016, he became Deputy Secretary of the Lhasa Municipal Party Committee and Party Secretary of the Municipal Government, and the following year he was appointed Mayor of Lhasa.
In December 2022, Guoguo was replaced as Mayor of Lhasa.
In February 2023, Guoguo appeared at a public event in his capacity as Party Secretary and Deputy Director of the Tibet Autonomous Region Market Supervision Administration.
