Former Vice President of Lanzhou Jiaotong University, Li Zongyi, is being transferred to judiciary

Former Vice President of Lanzhou Jiaotong University, Li Zongyi, who fell from grace last month, has been expelled from the party and transferred to judicial authorities.

According to a report from the Discipline Inspection Commission of Gansu Province on November 28th, after approval from the Gansu Provincial Party Committee, the Discipline Inspection Commission of Gansu Province conducted a case review and investigation into the serious disciplinary and legal issues of Li Zongyi, former member of the Lanzhou Jiaotong University Party Committee and Vice President.

The report stated that Li Zongyi colluded with others to fabricate evidence, transfer and conceal the proceeds of violations and crimes; repeatedly accepted banquets and travel arrangements that may affect the fair execution of official duties, illegally received gifts and cash, and long-term borrowed vehicles from entities under management services. He also concealed significant personal matters, engaged in profitable business activities, failed to fulfill supervision responsibilities properly, resulting in significant losses of state-owned assets, treated his position at the university as a “private domain,” and utilized public power to seek personal gain through power-for-money transactions, receiving substantial bribes.

According to the report, Li Zongyi has been expelled from the party, his retirement benefits have been adjusted, and he has been transferred to judicial authorities.

On October 12th of this year, Li Zongyi was officially investigated, four years before his retirement.

His resume shows that Li Zongyi was born in August 1960 in Zhangjiachuan, Gansu Province. He started working in July 1982, serving as a teacher and deputy director of the Teaching Affairs Department at the Gansu Provincial Machinery Technical School, and later as a teacher and vice principal at the Gansu Provincial School of Mechanical Industry.

The Gansu Provincial School of Mechanical Industry is a full-time ordinary secondary technical school under the Gansu Provincial Economic Commission. The school was originally established in 1979 as the Gansu Tianjin Machinery Manufacturing School and was renamed the Gansu Provincial School of Mechanical Industry in 1984.

Starting from 2010, Li Zongyi served as the President and Party Secretary of the Gansu Electromechanical Vocational and Technical College (confirmed as deputy department-level in November 2013).

In July 2018, Li Zongyi became a member of the Lanzhou Jiaotong University Party Committee and Vice President until his retirement in September 2020.
