Tom Cruise, a 62-year-old Hollywood superstar, and his ex-wife Katie Holmes’s daughter, Suri, have been in the spotlight since a young age due to her beautiful appearance and celebrity status. Despite turning 18 on April 18 this year, Suri, formerly known as Suri Cruise, reportedly decided to drop her father’s surname but Tom Cruise has agreed to continue paying her $65,000 annual college tuition.
Last week, Suri moved into the university dormitory accompanied by her mother, Katie Holmes. Media captured the mother-daughter duo in matching white tops and jeans, with Suri dragging two large suitcases while Katie carried a white duffel bag, suggesting they were well-prepared for the move.
Sources revealed that Suri is excited about this new chapter in her life and is keen on experiencing college life to the fullest by living in the dorm with a roommate, rather than staying in her mother’s three-story apartment in New York.
Suri is set to officially start classes on the 26th and neither she nor her mother have to worry about tuition fees as Tom Cruise has committed to funding her entire college education as per the divorce agreement with Katie. The agreement specifies that Tom is responsible for Suri’s healthcare, dental care, insurance, education expenses including university tuition and other extracurricular costs. Katie is also appointed as Suri’s sole guardian and Tom pays Katie $400,000 per month in child support until Suri reached 18.
A close friend of Tom Cruise confirmed, “Tom is indeed covering Suri’s tuition fees and will continue to do so indefinitely. He doesn’t hesitate to fulfill his obligations, and that hasn’t changed.” However, it is speculated that Tom might not continue to pay child support to Katie now that Suri has turned 18.
Suri is attending Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), a private university in Pennsylvania, and reports suggest she may be studying fashion or performing arts, which her mother fully supports. The upcoming family weekend at the dorm on September 27th and 28th may provide an opportunity for Suri and Katie to reunite on campus.
Tom Cruise and Suri’s last public appearance together was 11 years ago. Since Tom’s divorce from Katie in 2012, there has been minimal interaction between him and his daughter.
In May this year, Suri performed in a stage play in New York but was credited as “Suri Noelle,” using her mother’s middle name and omitting the Cruise surname. This decision raised speculation about her desire to distance herself from her father, similar to Hollywood actor Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh, who prefers not to be associated with her famous parents. However, some believe that “Suri Noelle” is just a stage name chosen by Suri to avoid the spotlight that comes with being a celebrity offspring.
