Five young fathers form a harmony vocal group, moving music captivates the world

A Swedish band called “Dad Harmony,” composed of five father singers, has captured the hearts of millions worldwide with their peaceful yet powerful vocals and beautiful melodies.

Surprisingly, these fathers in their early 30s found themselves becoming singing sensations by chance – none of them have had any professional training. These talented men all have steady jobs, with singing being their shared hobby.

The band consists of brothers Tomas and Peter Vidmark, Michael Åberg, Sebastian Åkesson, and Adam Stenlund. The image of these young fathers spending time with their children has become synonymous with the band’s viral music videos.

Fans often praise the family harmony showcased in their videos – their children enjoying lullabies, often sitting quietly on their fathers’ laps, drawn in by the band’s melodic voices.

“It’s surreal,” Tomas told The Epoch Times, “We can’t believe it, especially with so many Americans following us. That’s our biggest fan base. I think over 30% of our followers are from the USA. We are very grateful.”

Dad Harmony embarked on their first tour last Christmas and will start their second tour in October in Europe.

“Many people are asking us to come to the US, and we also hope to make it happen soon,” Tomas said.

Some of their most popular songs to date include, but not limited to: “Hallelujah,” “Amazing Grace,” “Silent Night,” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “When You Say Nothing at All,” among others.

The story behind their unexpected fame is as remarkable as their musical talents.

All members grew up in the small town of Skellefteå in northern Sweden and came together in June 2022 for Peter’s bachelor party before his wedding.

On a whim, they decided to sing “Wellerman,” a 19th-century New Zealand sea shanty, together. To forever capture the moment, they decided to record it. Initially, Tomas had no intention of sharing their video on TikTok.

“I had around 7 followers, I wasn’t a regular user of the app,” Tomas said, “But I posted it on TikTok, and later when I was about to send it to my friends, I realized I couldn’t download the video unless I post it.”

Without much thought, he clicked on publish and sent the link to his friends. The next morning, Tomas saw a “ton of comments and likes.” When he met with Peter and everyone for breakfast, he said, “Guys, I think we’ve gone viral, so we need to move to Los Angeles…”

Initially, it was a joke, but it was still hard to comprehend that their video had been viewed by over 40,000 people. However, things escalated rapidly, and when their video reached 22 million views, the idea of forming a music group became more realistic.

“We thought, ‘We need to keep doing this,'” Tomas said.

Since then, they regularly record songs together and share their music on Tomas’s social media pages, continually inspiring listeners and leaving a profound impression on them.

As their popularity continued to rise, a top morning show in Sweden called, inviting them to make a public appearance. At this point, they decided they needed to pick a “real name” for their music group.

Initially, they all tied beer to their first video “Wellerman” and tried to incorporate that into their next video. They soon realized they couldn’t do that for every video, so they continued to search for a name.

They quickly noticed a unique pattern: they all have young families, and their children often appear on camera. They decided to name themselves “Dad Harmony.”

Including their children in their videos has been a key reason for their internet followers’ loyalty.

In one video, they sang “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” to a child in a crib. A commenter wrote, “Every baby in the world should hear all of you sing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’! Such beautiful harmonies, so soothing. I myself listened to that song over and over, and I’m 63 years old.”

Having found their team identity and established a strong sense of community, their continued success comes from their consistency. They still reside in their small Swedish hometown and gather every Sunday to record three songs together.

Tomas pointed out that these moments bring their families together. These family music sessions create special memories. When they go on tour, their partners and children accompany them.

When asked about their success and the motivation behind their creative art, Tomas said, “…we’re just like normal people, but we’re very, very happy that we can impact people.”

Their daily videos showcasing interactions with their families undoubtedly have won the hearts of many online, but it is their passion for singing and their electrifying voices that attract loyal fans. Fans often praise the healing qualities of their voices and their warmth.

“This is what heaven sounds like. Your harmonies are tight,” a social media user wrote in the comments section of “Amazing Grace.” And another fan, after listening to “Hallelujah,” said, “Imagine being a little baby, nestled in your father’s arms, surrounded by those beautiful harmonies.”

Anyone interested can find them on Instagram as “Dad_Harmony.”

Dad Harmony will also release a Christmas album in September this year, along with a tour.
