Terror attack in central Israel leaves 1 dead and 5 wounded

On Sunday, June 7, a terrorist opened fire at multiple locations in central Israel, resulting in one fatality and five injuries. The gunman was later shot dead by Israeli security forces. Subsequently, another man suspected of involvement in the attack was arrested.

Authorities stated that the slain gunman was an Arab-Israeli from the city of Tayibe in Israel. A gun was found in his possession. The police have classified this incident as a terrorist attack.

According to reports from the Israeli newspaper, Magen David Adom, the Israeli Red Cross, provided medical treatment to several individuals who were shot in various locations. Two men over the age of 30 were shot at a gas station near Kochav Ya’ir, one of them sustaining serious injuries. A 31-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were shot at the entrance of Tzur Yitzhak, both with moderate injuries. Additionally, two men were shot on a road outside Tzur Natan; one man in his mid-30s succumbed to his injuries, while another man over 40 sustained serious injuries.

Following the attack in Kochav Ya’ir, alarms sounded in Zuranat and Tzur Yitzhak warning residents of potential terrorist infiltration, prompting them to set up barriers at home.

These three communities located in the northern part of Tel Aviv are adjacent to each other. After the shooting incidents near these communities, the terrorist drove to the nearby West Bank settlement of Sal’it, fired at the entrance, and fled after the security personnel retaliated. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident.

Israeli forces eventually tracked down the terrorist to the outskirts of Tayibe, an Arab town north of Kochav Ya’ir, and neutralized him. Security officials confirmed the deceased as Omar Yassin, an Israeli citizen residing in Tayibe. The military announced that further searches are being conducted in the area to locate any other potential suspects.

Police received information that a man, while trying to seek help to evade law enforcement, confessed to his involvement in the attack. During his arrest, the suspect attempted to attack officers with a glass bottle but was eventually subdued and apprehended.

The Office of the Israeli Prime Minister announced that Prime Minister Netanyahu has been briefed on the situation and is closely monitoring the developments.
