Lai Ching-te: Taiwanese Military Fully Monitors PLA Activities, Citizens Can Rest Assured

In response to the Chinese Communist Party’s military exercises around Taiwan, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Tsai Ing-wen, stated today (24th) that she had a video conference with Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng to understand the measures the military should take. Both she and the military have been closely monitoring the movements of the Chinese troops to ensure the safety of the nation and its people, allowing everyone to rest assured.

The Chinese military claimed that forces from the Eastern Theater Command, including land, sea, air, and rocket forces, began the “Joint Sword-2024A” exercise around Taiwan and the surrounding Kinmen and Matsu islands from 7:45 a.m. on the 23rd to the 24th.

President Tsai Ing-wen took to Facebook today with the message “Unity is the greatest backing of the military!” In her post, she mentioned that she had a video conference with Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng this morning, where she received real-time briefings from Minister Chiu, Chief of the General Staff Mei Chia-shu, and the Joint Operations Command Center of the military regarding the measures taken by the military in response to the Chinese military exercises. She also expressed gratitude to Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng, Chief of the General Staff Mei Chia-shu, and all the military personnel for their hard work.

President Tsai emphasized that ensuring the security and stability of the Taiwan Strait and safeguarding Taiwan’s freedom and democracy have always been the consistent defense goals. She stated that she and the military have been monitoring the movements of the Chinese forces closely and are ready to respond immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of the nation and the people, allowing everyone to feel at ease.

She mentioned that the military works tirelessly around the clock to protect national security, urging the public to fully support the military. Unity and cooperation, as well as a unified front externally, are the greatest support for the military. She called on the military to continue working with her to strive for the protection of the home, defense of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
