Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station has applied for an arrest warrant for the well-known South Korean Trot singer Kim Ho-jung, who was involved in a hit-and-run incident after drinking earlier this month. His management company stated that after concluding his performances on the 23rd and 24th, Kim Ho-jung will suspend all activities to reflect on his actions and cooperate honestly with the police investigation.
On the night of the 9th of this month, Kim Ho-jung collided with a taxi and fled the scene. Following instructions from the company’s head, his manager wore Kim Ho-jung’s clothing and attempted to turn himself in disguised as Kim Ho-jung, in an effort to take the blame for the incident. The company head also initially claimed to the public that Kim Ho-jung had not been drinking. Furthermore, the company’s chief even took the memory card from the car’s black box, raising suspicions of evidence tampering. As a result, the court has approved travel restrictions for four individuals, including Kim Ho-jung.
Earlier reports revealed that the Seoul Gangnam Police Station applied for an arrest warrant against Kim Ho-jung for suspected violations of the Specific Crimes Serious Penalties Act (hit and run causing injury and reckless driving causing injury). The head of the management company and the company chief have also received arrest warrants on suspicions of instigating the evasion of the law and destroying evidence.
On the 19th, Kim Ho-jung wrote a public apology admitting to driving under the influence and fleeing the scene. However, despite the incident, Kim Ho-jung proceeded with his scheduled “TVAROTTI CLASSIC ARENA TOUR 2024” concert, which sparked public condemnation.
In response, Kim Ho-jung’s management company, THINK Entertainment, stated on the 22nd, “Kim Ho-jung will suspend all activities after the World Union Orchestra Super Classic performance on the 23rd and 24th for a period of self-reflection. Additionally, both Kim Ho-jung and relevant company personnel will fully cooperate with the police investigation and accept any punishment willingly regardless of the outcome.”
