Senior Chinese Communist Party Public Security official Liu Yuejin’s first trial accused of receiving bribes totaling 121 million yuan.

Former Deputy Minister-level official of the Chinese Communist Party’s Ministry of Public Security, Liu Yuejin, faced trial for bribery, accused of accepting over 1.21 billion yuan in assets. He was previously a subordinate of former Minister of the Ministry of Public Security, Meng Jianzhu, and Guo Shengkun.

On March 27, the First Instance of the Fujian Province Fuzhou Intermediate People’s Court publicly held a trial for Liu Yuejin, a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), at the Deputy Minister level, on charges of bribery.

According to the prosecution, from 1992 to 2020, Liu Yuejin, utilizing his positions as Deputy Director of the Tanggu Sub-Bureau of the Tianjin Municipal Public Security Bureau, Director of the Anti-Drug Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, member of the Party Committee, assistant to the Minister, Vice Chairman, and Director of the Office of the National Narcotics Control Commission, abused his power to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in business operations, financing, and loans, and illegally received a total of more than 1.21 billion RMB in assets directly or through others.

The prosecution requested to hold Liu Yuejin criminally responsible for bribery, while Liu Yuejin expressed “guilt and remorse” in court. The trial ended with the court announcing a recess and postponed the verdict.

Public records show that Liu Yuejin was born in January 1959 in Ningyuan, Hunan Province. He had a long career in the CCP’s public security system, serving as Deputy Director and Director of the Anti-Drug Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, member of the Party Committee, Assistant Minister, Vice Chairman of the National Narcotics Control Commission, and Director of the Office of the National Narcotics Control Commission. In December 2015, he was appointed as the Anti-Terrorism Commissioner of the Ministry of Public Security (at the Deputy Minister level) and Party Committee member. In March 2018, he became a member of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Liu Yuejin once led the investigation of the “10.5 Mekong River Incident.” The character Gao Gang portrayed by Zhang Hanyu in the movie “Operation Mekong” is based on Liu Yuejin.

Political commentator Li Lin once told Epoch Times that Liu Yuejin was an assistant of former Minister of the Ministry of Public Security, Guo Shengkun, but had a closer relationship with Meng Jianzhu. His downfall is likely related to Meng Jianzhu.
