New York Republican lawmakers urge investigation of Sun Wen case, expanding to political donation activities.

New York State Republican Senator Jack Martins and other Republican State Senators have jointly called for a thorough investigation into the case of Linda Sun, former deputy chief of staff to Governor Hochul, who is accused of acting as an agent for the Chinese Communist Party. They demand to uncover whether the CCP has used her to donate money to New York politicians.

According to the news website theIsland360, Martins, along with Republican State Senators Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick and Steve Rhoads, held a press conference on September 14th. They requested an investigation into politicians who had close collaboration with Sun to understand their relationship with her and whether they received donations from the CCP through her. Martins expressed during the press conference that Sun, while serving as a high-ranking official in the Hochul administration, was allegedly a covert agent for the Chinese Communist government, raising serious concerns about the CCP’s infiltration into the state government’s executive branch.

Martins and his colleagues are also worried that since Sun is a resident of Manhasset, Long Island, the CCP may extend its influence to the state legislature through donations to election campaigns in the Long Island area.

On September 10th, Martins and 14 other Republican State Senators jointly wrote to the State Council leaders, urging the establishment of a bipartisan committee to investigate the case involving Sun. Martins reiterated the call for a federal investigation into the Sun case on the 14th, advocating for inclusion of her political donation activities in the scope of the investigation. He emphasized the need for bold and decisive actions to ensure that the New York political arena is not under the sway of the Chinese government and to hold accountable any implicated politicians. They also criticized Hochul for failing to initiate an investigation and shirking responsibility, effectively covering up the truth.

Linda Sun previously served as the Deputy Secretary for Diversity under former Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Labor under Governor Hochul. She and her husband, Chris Hu, were arrested by the FBI at their home in Long Island on September 3rd. The couple faces charges of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, among others, and allegedly obtaining millions of dollars in illicit benefits from the Chinese Communist Party.
