Hunan Finance Department Director Liu Wenjie and two others fall to their deaths suddenly, sparking speculation.

On the morning of September 19, 2024, Liu Wenjie, the Party Secretary and Director of the Finance Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Hunan Province, suddenly passed away. Reports from mainland China suggested his death was “accidental” and may involve a criminal case, with three people reportedly falling to their deaths at the scene, leading to speculation about the circumstances.

According to information from the Economic Observer website, on the afternoon of September 19, several informed sources, including colleagues of Liu Wenjie, revealed that the Party Secretary and Director of the Finance Department of Hunan Province, Liu Wenjie, had died unexpectedly, possibly related to a criminal case.

A former colleague of Liu Wenjie told the Economic Observer reporter that Liu Wenjie was “very dedicated and hardworking, often working in the office until 11 p.m. almost every day.”

On September 19, an internal source within the finance system of Hunan Province told The Paper News that Liu Wenjie lived in a residential building within the compound of the Finance Department of Hunan Province. According to multiple individuals who have been to the scene, three people fell to their deaths, all confirmed deceased. Currently, the site has been cordoned off.

The Changsha Tianxin District Chengnan Police Station confirmed that an incident did occur in the finance department compound, with police responding to the scene, but refrained from disclosing further details.

A netizen passing by the scene took photos and commented, “I don’t know the specific details, just happened to pass by and didn’t expect it to be this serious.”

Another netizen speculated, “Two perpetrators tied her up and threw her down from the building, then the perpetrators also committed suicide by jumping off the building.”

A netizen who shared photos said, “Let’s wait for official news, after all, we are not on the scene.”

Inquiring further, a netizen asked, “Did it happen in the Finance Department residential building?”

The netizen who shared the photos responded, “If I remember correctly, it seems so, right next to the Finance Department.”

Liu Wenjie, born in October 1966 in Liuyuan, Loudi, Hunan, had been working in the Hunan Provincial Finance Department for many years, holding various positions such as Assistant Researcher in the Administrative Legal Affairs Department, Deputy Director of the Administrative Legal Affairs Department, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institution, Director of the Party Committee Office of the Department, Chairman of the Labor Union, Director of Human Resources and Education Department, Chief Economist of the Finance Department, Deputy Director, and a Standing Committee member of the Hunan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection. In 2020, Liu Wenjie transferred to the Party Secretary and Director of the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Statistics. In December 2022, she returned to the Finance Department…

Following reports from mainland media, some netizens questioned, “Three people fell (from the building) together?”

“A criminal case? This is a major event.”

“If it’s a criminal case, it’s not an accident. The topic is off.”

“Was it suicide or homicide?”

Some also doubted why a female official had to “work until 11 p.m. every day.”

“Accidental death, could there be hidden motives behind it?”

“Two high falls, involving two others?”

“There are many issues with finance, taxation, and judiciary matters.”

“There must be demons! It must be a problem related to interests!”

In recent years, in the CPC’s anti-corruption campaign, there have been instances of officials falling to their deaths. However, there have also been cases where officials have been involved in criminal cases due to extramarital affairs or disputes over interests.

Authorities have not yet reported the specific cause of the death of Liu Wenjie, the Party Secretary and Director of the Finance Department in Hunan Province.
