Sichuan Wenchuan Mudflow Causes Traffic Disruption, Vehicles Trapped

On September 16, 2024, a sudden mudslide occurred in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, China. The incident took place at 5:30 am, with mudslides rushing down the National Highway 350 in Wenchuan County, Gengda Town, Wolong Town, and other areas, leading to disrupted traffic and trapping vehicles at the scene.

According to reports from mainland China’s CCTV, at 5:30 am on September 16, mudslides occurred at various locations along National Highway 350 in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, including K897+550 in Gengda Town (Dashibao), K912+370 in Wolong Town (between Arrow Bamboo Tunnels No. 1 and No. 2), and K919+400 (Jinyinhao Ditch), causing traffic disruptions and trapping vehicles.

However, due to the Chinese Communist Party’s habit of concealing information, the actual number of trapped vehicles could not be confirmed.

On May 12, 2008, Wenchuan experienced a magnitude 8 earthquake, with official figures stating that more than 69,000 people died as a result.
