Lai Ching-te Thanks the Military for Safeguarding National Security and Defending Sovereignty on Armed Forces Day.

On September 3, 2024, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te attended the ceremony for martyrs and fallen soldiers on Armed Forces Day. Tsai Ing-wen expressed her gratitude on Facebook to the armed forces for safeguarding national security and defending sovereignty.

The “Autumn Ritual Ceremony for Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers of the Republic of China (Year 113)” was held at 10 a.m. today at the National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine in Taipei. President Tsai Ing-wen personally presided over the ceremony, with Vice President Lai Ching-te, Premier Cho Jung-tai, Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu, and Control Yuan President Chen Chu in attendance.

Arriving at the Martyrs’ Shrine amidst solemn music, President Tsai Ing-wen participated in the ceremony. The event began with the tolling of bells and drums, the national anthem of the Republic of China was played, followed by Tsai Ing-wen laying flowers at the shrine of the martyrs of the National Revolution; after the reading of the ritual text, he led the attendees in three deep bows, creating a dignified and solemn atmosphere; after the ceremony, Tsai Ing-wen shook hands with representatives of the martyrs’ families.

Tsai Ing-wen posted on Facebook, stating, “Today is Armed Forces Day. Let us thank all our military brothers and sisters for safeguarding national security and defending our national sovereignty! Democracy and freedom are our unwavering principles, peace is the only choice, and prosperity is the goal for long-term stability.”

“Whether defending our waters, protecting our airspace, or safeguarding our land, the military is at the forefront, faithfully carrying out difficult missions one after another, serving as the most critical force for protecting the nation and the safety of the people,” Tsai Ing-wen said.

Tsai Ing-wen mentioned that the overall defense budget for the coming year will continue to increase. In addition to strengthening asymmetric warfare capabilities, efforts will be made to provide better training, equipment, and care for the military, aiming for a more streamlined and modernized armed forces.

He emphasized, “We want the world to see the determination of the Taiwanese military and civilians in defending our country.” He also expressed gratitude to all military families for their warm support and understanding, ensuring that the military can focus on protecting our homeland without any worries. Tsai Ing-wen once again thanked all military brothers and sisters for bringing peace of mind to the people, ensuring social stability, and national security, stating, “The nation is proud of you!”
