The European Parliament unanimously passed a resolution on the 16th, affirming Taiwan’s experience in dealing with China’s hybrid attacks and foreign information manipulation and interference, advocating for regular exchanges between the European Union and Taiwan.
The resolution passed by the European Parliament on “Hybrid Warfare and the Protection of the Territorial Integrity and Critical Security and Defense Infrastructure of the EU” highlights Taiwan’s rich experience in responding to China’s hybrid attacks and Foreign Influence and Information Manipulation (FIMI). It also recognizes Taiwan’s efforts in promoting societal resilience, including establishing a National Resilience Committee, developing digital resilience networks, and promoting comprehensive public readiness.
Furthermore, the resolution calls for regular exchanges between the European Union and Taiwan on relevant security issues to deepen cooperation in countering FIMI and cognitive warfare, protecting critical infrastructure and undersea cables, and enhancing societal resilience. It also suggests expanding trade and industrial cooperation between the EU and Taiwan, especially in the areas of semiconductors, 5G/6G telecommunications equipment, drones, and dual-use military and civilian supplies.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that this is another friendly resolution passed by the European Parliament following the “Special Committee on the Shield of European Democracy Investigation Results and Recommendations” resolution passed on the 15th. Foreign Minister Joseph Wu expressed sincere welcome and gratitude for this decision.
The ministry appreciated the consecutive resolutions showing support for Taiwan’s contributions and efforts in democratic defense and societal resilience. Taiwan will continue to deepen cooperation with the European Union and like-minded partners to collectively address the hybrid threats and information manipulation from authoritarian regimes, safeguarding the rules-based international order and universal values such as democracy, freedom, and human rights.
