The chairman of the China Democratic Party International Alliance, Jie Lijian, has been missing for over 24 hours, and his friends have reported him missing. This incident occurred after widespread protests against the Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping during his visit to the United States, drawing attention to the situation.
According to a post on the X platform by Yang Lei, a member of the China Democratic Party in the United States, on September 29th at 1:16 PM Beijing time, “Jie Lijian has been missing for over 24 hours, his team has reported to the police multiple times, but there has been no result. His friends and internet users speculate in three ways: 1. Possibly being admitted to the intensive care unit again; 2. Possibly being kidnapped by the CCP; 3. Going into hiding on his own.”
Earlier, Yang Lei posted, “As of 9:25 AM on September 28, 2026, Chairman Jie Lijian has not posted anything for a full 18 hours (Jie Lijian’s last post was on the evening of September 27, North American time). His phone calls go unanswered, does anyone know what happened?”
Attempts to contact Jie Lijian by a reporter from Dajiyuan went unanswered. In the past, sending messages to him would at least show that the message was received, even if he did not read it, but the latest message sent to him did not show as received.
Jie Lijian is a well-known overseas Chinese democracy activist who has been a vocal supporter of dissidents inside China, making him a thorn in the side of the CCP. He has been the target of violent attacks suspected to be orchestrated by the CCP multiple times, having been injured in attacks twice this year alone.
Shortly before the 37th anniversary of the “June 4th” crackdown, Jie Lijian was involved in a serious car accident shortly after protesting the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to the U.S., where he was hit twice by another car that then fled the scene, leaving his vehicle nearly totaled and him with a head injury.
Around July 15th, Jie Lijian was followed and attacked by three Asian men in Flushing, New York, sustaining serious head injuries and unconsciousness for about two days, at one point being admitted to the intensive care unit.
Jie Lijian regards these incidents as part of a transnational crackdown and investigations by local authorities and federal agencies are ongoing, with no official conclusions released yet.
During the recent visit of CCP leader Xi Jinping to the United States, he faced significant protests. Dozens of democracy activist groups organized massive marches and rallies, with Jie Lijian being an active participant and speaker.
