Ukrainian President Zelensky announced on Wednesday that he had signed a “drone agreement” with the President of Finland, marking another achievement in Ukraine’s collaboration of technical expertise with industrial capabilities of other countries.
During his attendance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Zelensky met with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Taking to Telegram on Wednesday, Zelensky mentioned that he signed a drone agreement with Stubb, emphasizing that it is an important step towards jointly safeguarding their citizens and strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
Zelensky expressed Ukraine’s willingness to share these life-saving experiences with their closest friends.
When the war erupted with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the country had limited experience with drone technology. However, with the ongoing conflict, Kyiv rapidly developed its drone technology, now capable of shooting down invading drones, many of which are of Iranian design.
Ukraine has shared its drone technology with around ten countries, including those in the Middle East facing threats from Iran. Agreements have also been reached with the European Union.
At the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, Zelensky disclosed a security agreement between Ukraine and Australia.
Describing drone transactions as a “ready-made security model that can be adjusted based on each specific country and region,” Zelensky stated that through drone deals, Ukraine has established cooperation with partners in the Gulf region, South Caucasus region, and across Europe.
He noted that drones enable countries to control borders, mountains, and roads, safeguarding their critical infrastructure.
