Former Director of Sichuan Provincial Statistics Bureau, Fan Yi, Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Accepting Bribes Over One Billion Yuan.

The former director of the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Statistics, Fan Yi, who fell from grace three and a half years ago and went through two court trials, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for accepting bribes totaling 107 million yuan (RMB).

On July 17, the Intermediate People’s Court of Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, publicly pronounced its verdict in the bribery case of Fan Yi, former party secretary and director of the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Statistics. He was convicted of the crime of accepting bribes and sentenced to life imprisonment, with confiscation of all his personal assets.

According to the court, from 2003 to 2020, Fan Yi took advantage of his positions as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Discipline Inspection Secretary of Dujiangyan City, County Mayor of Pixian County, Party Secretary of Chongzhou City, Director of the Administrative Committee and Party Committee Secretary of the Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, to provide assistance to others in obtaining land use rights, contracting engineering projects, property registration, and other matters. He illegally accepted a total of more than 107 million yuan in assets, some of which had not been obtained at the time of the case.

The case was heard twice, on October 31, 2024, and July 2, 2026.

Public records show that Fan Yi was born in 1963 in Pengzhou, Sichuan, and started working in 1982 with a university degree. He has held various positions including Director of the Finance Office and Discipline Inspection Secretary of Pengzhou City, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Discipline Inspection Secretary of Dujiangyan City, Director of the Chengdu Municipal Finance Bureau, Deputy Mayor of Chengdu, and Party Secretary and Director of the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Statistics.
