According to a local resident using the pseudonym Li Dong, the economic situation in their city reflects the larger challenges faced by county-level economies across China. Li Dong highlighted that the most thriving businesses in the area are mahjong parlors and establishments offering adult entertainment services, while other industries struggle to survive.
Li Dong, who runs a small business himself, shared insights with reporters about the local county-level economy. Despite government reports outlining plans to revitalize county-level economies by developing infrastructure and promoting industry diversification, Li Dong believes that these efforts remain largely ineffective in their region.
He pointed out that many individuals in the county are unemployed and resort to delivering takeout, courier services, beauty services, and other low-wage jobs due to a lack of opportunities.
