Former Chairwoman of Inner Mongolia Government, Wang Lixia, Prosecuted for Especially Large Bribery Amount

Former Chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Government, Wang Lixia, has been prosecuted for alleged involvement in a massive bribery case. Wang was taken down from her position in late August last year.

According to a report from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Chinese Communist Party on June 3, the decision to arrest Wang Lixia on suspicion of bribery was made, and the Daqing City Procuratorate of Heilongjiang Province was appointed to review and prosecute the case. Recently, the prosecutor’s office has filed a lawsuit with the Intermediate People’s Court of Daqing City.

The prosecution accuses Wang Lixia of using her positions as the Deputy Secretary of the Tongchuan City Committee and Mayor of Shaanxi Province, Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province, Member of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee, Minister of the United Front Work Department, Secretary of the Hohhot City Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee, and Chairman of the Autonomous Region Government to seek benefits for others, illegally accepting property from others in an especially large amount. She should be held criminally responsible for the crime of bribery.

Wang Lixia, born in June 1964, is a delegate of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party and a candidate member of the 19th Central Committee and a member of the 20th Central Committee. She has served as the Deputy Director, Party Secretary, and Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics, Deputy Secretary and Acting Mayor of the Tongchuan City Committee, and later became officially appointed.

In 2013, Wang Lixia, who was less than 49 years old, was officially appointed as the Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province, becoming the youngest vice-provincial-level cadre in the leadership team of Shaanxi Province at the time.

In 2016, Wang Lixia was transferred across provincial borders to become a Member of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department. In 2019, she began serving as the Secretary of the Hohhot City Committee.

In July 2021, Wang Lixia was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee. In the same year in August, she was appointed as the Vice Chairman and Acting Chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In September, Wang Lixia officially served as the Deputy Secretary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee, Chairman of the Autonomous Region, and Secretary of the Party Group of the Government, becoming the ninth female provincial-level government “leader” since the founding of the Chinese Communist Party.

On August 22, 2025, Wang Lixia was officially announced to be under investigation.
