Taiwanese artist Mark Chao, who has been married to mainland Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan for 10 years, recently appeared on a Chinese variety show called “The Cat in the Box” and was asked how much pocket money Gao Yuanyuan gives him each month. He generously responded that they are both financially independent individuals, so there is no concept of “who gives who pocket money”.
During the show, Mark Chao was casually snacking on melon seeds while answering questions about his personal life. When asked about who holds the financial power in their household and how much pocket money Gao Yuanyuan gives him each month, he candidly answered all the questions.
Mark Chao revealed that he and Gao Yuanyuan share responsibility for all household expenses. Gao Yuanyuan does not monitor how much he takes or spends, and he does not need to “report” anything to his wife. This implies that his money is under his own control. Mark Chao even playfully added, “Yuanyuan doesn’t control me, she treats me so well!” He expressed great satisfaction with their current married life.
As for pocket money, Mark Chao straightforwardly said, “There is no pocket money, so I just use my own money.” He emphasized that both he and Gao Yuanyuan are financially independent, so there is no need for him to ask for money from his wife.
Gao Yuanyuan and Mark Chao met during the filming of the movie “Caught in the Web” in 2011. They got married and welcomed their daughter Rhea when Gao Yuanyuan was 39 years old. The family of three is filled with happiness. Due to often being photographed enjoying outings together, there has been constant speculation about when the couple will have a second child. When asked about this during the show, Mark Chao shyly responded, “Let nature take its course!”
Mark Chao once reminisced on a show about how Gao Yuanyuan had a huge appetite when they were filming together, especially for egg fried rice, which caught his attention and care. Not fond of indulging at banquets, Mark Chao would discreetly order a serving of egg fried rice for Gao Yuanyuan just to fill her stomach. Gradually he noticed that only Gao Yuanyuan shared his preference for non-greasy foods at lavish dinners.
As a result, during meals, Mark Chao always instructed the chef to specially prepare egg fried rice for Gao Yuanyuan. Later on, Gao Yuanyuan found out that every time she enjoyed delicious egg fried rice, it was all thanks to Mark Chao. Their bond grew stronger over time, making them a well-known and affectionate couple in the entertainment industry.
