In a surprising turn of events, mainland Chinese actor Yu Menglong tragically passed away, sparking controversy and uncovering layers of shadows within the entertainment industry. Recently, netizens unearthed a video clip from 2013 featuring actress Zhao Wei making a shocking statement on a TV show, where she claimed “I have killed someone,” leading to a huge debate. As public opinion escalated, this old video suddenly disappeared from circulation.
In the discovered footage from 2013, Zhao Wei was interviewed by TVB in Hong Kong as part of a variety show segment. The host mentioned that each guest had to reveal a previously undisclosed secret at the end of the show, prompting Zhao Wei to share a secret in return for another secret.
To the audience’s surprise, Zhao Wei blurted out, “I have killed someone!” with a brilliant smile. The host, astonished, asked, “Have you really killed someone?” Zhao Wei replied, “You almost cried, what kind of answer is that?”
While this exchange may have initially been a playful attempt to create show effects, it has now sparked a series of conspiracy theories in the current context.
Following Yu Menglong’s tragic fall to his death on September 11, 2024, authorities quickly ruled out foul play, aggressively suppressing the truth, deleting posts, controlling public opinion, and reigniting discussions about the deceased male star’s untimely demise, including speculations.
Some netizens commented, “Little Swallow: I have killed someone. The truth often appears in a joking manner,” in reference to Yu Menglong. More netizens speculated: “So, the person she (Zhao Wei) killed could be Yu Menglong?” “She might be referring to Yu Menglong, as they had a family relationship. It is said that she invited Yu to a party, and he died that day.” “I believe she was telling the truth, her face blushed, and her laughter concealed her inner tension.”
Given that Zhao Wei participated in the show’s recording in 2013, well before Yu Menglong’s death in 2016, this timeline shift has led to a new direction in the conspiracy theories, with some suggesting that Zhao Wei’s mention of “killing someone” may have had a different target.
Some netizens have shifted their focus to late Chinese actor Liu Dan, who had worked with Zhao Wei in the drama “My Fair Princess.” It was reported earlier that Liu Dan, who portrayed the role of “Fragrant Consort” in the series, passed away in a car accident in 2001 at the young age of 25. This tragedy being revisited has reignited discussions that were previously settled.
As public opinion intensified, an online account named “News Investigation” discovered that the video had been taken down and claimed that “Zhao Wei used resources to suppress this video.” However, there has been no official confirmation of these related reports, and Zhao Wei herself has not responded to the discussions and conspiracy theories surrounding this old video clip.
It is worth noting that Zhao Wei was officially labeled as a “bad actor” by authorities in August 2021 and faced a complete ban. Her whereabouts have remained a mystery, and now, with netizens digging up this old footage and it spreading widely, it not only reflects the continued public interest in Zhao Wei but also indicates the public’s strong skepticism regarding the official assertion that criminal elements were ruled out in Yu Menglong’s cause of death. There is also a sense of anger and sorrow expressed towards the alleged abuse and murder of Yu Menglong for refusing to adhere to the unwritten rules of the entertainment industry.
