Zelensky’s UN Speech Criticizes China’s Peace Plan in Brazil.

At the United Nations General Assembly meeting at its headquarters in New York on Wednesday (September 25), Ukrainian President Zelensky addressed the UN General Assembly, questioning the intentions behind the efforts made by the Chinese Communist Party and Brazil to end the Russia-Ukraine war. He warned at the UN, “By sacrificing the interests of Ukraine, you will not strengthen your own power.”

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, nine months later, Zelensky announced a ten-point peace plan based on the UN Charter and international law, with the hope of justly ending the war. However, Russia rejected this plan.

In May of this year, China and Brazil jointly proposed the so-called “Six-point Peace Plan” (referred to as the “six-point consensus”), and have been actively seeking the participation of developing countries in the plan. Brazilian President Lula also promoted the plan in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

“When some propose alternative, vacillating solutions and so-called principles, it not only ignores the interests and suffering of the Ukrainian people… It not only ignores reality but also gives (Russian President) Putin political space to continue (waging) war,” Zelensky said.

He urged global leaders to stand with Ukraine, not seeking just an “outlet,” but seeking “true, fair peace.” He also stated that the peace plan has been in existence for two years, and some may want to achieve a Nobel Prize by reaching a ceasefire freeze rather than genuine peace. “But the only reward Putin gives you is more suffering and disaster.”

Addressing the General Assembly of 193 member countries, he said, “Any parallel or alternative attempts for peace are actually aimed at quelling the war rather than ending it.”

He said, “When the China-Brazil duet tries to develop into a chorus
——

Some from Europe, some from Africa——raise certain views different from comprehensive, fair peace, problems arise. So, what are the true interests? Everyone must understand, you cannot enhance your own power at the cost of sacrificing Ukraine.”

“Do not divide the world, unite.” He pleaded, “Only then can we achieve peace.”

Zelensky also emphasized that the suffering of the Ukrainian people is profound. He stated that the Ukrainian people are at the forefront of the impact of the war, and Ukrainians are forcibly separated by Russia.

Zelensky plans to outline a “Victory Plan” to U.S. President Biden at the White House on Thursday.

The Kremlin called Zelensky’s plan to force Russia to achieve peace a “fatal mistake.”
