Yuan Industrial Park Hosts 6-in-1 Blood Donation Event

On May 9, 2024, the Health Bureau of Taoyuan City, Taiwan, collaborated with the Dayuan Industrial Zone Association, Taoyuan Tao Huayuan Rotary Club, and Dayuan Minsheng Hospital to organize the “Dayuan Industrial Park Blood Donation Charity Event” at the Dayuan Industrial Park Service Center. The event featured a range of services aimed at promoting health, including blood donation, expanded lung cancer screening appointments in Taoyuan City, oral cancer screening, hepatitis B and C screening, XBB vaccine administration, and lung X-ray examinations. This comprehensive 6-in-1 service aimed to encourage industrial zone companies and employees to actively participate in blood donation.

The Health Bureau pointed out that the expanded lung cancer screening in Taoyuan City targets citizens over 40 years old who are residing in Taoyuan and have high-risk factors such as “exposure to smoking,” “relevant medical history and family history,” “occupational exposure,” and “air pollution and cooking fumes.” The service offers free low-dose computed tomography lung cancer screening to this high-risk group. In addition, the government provides various health screenings, including oral mucosal examination every two years for individuals above 30 years old (indigenous people above 18 years old) who chew betel nuts (including those who have quit) or smoke. It also reminds the public that initial infection with hepatitis B and C is often asymptomatic and a major cause of liver cancer. Therefore, it encourages individuals aged 45 to 79 (indigenous people aged 40 to 79) to undergo a lifelong free screening for hepatitis B and C, enabling early detection and treatment to reduce the incidence and mortality of cancer.

In the post-pandemic era, vaccines remain the most cost-effective preventive measure, especially in protecting vulnerable populations and reducing the risk of severe illness and death. The Health Bureau reminds citizens aged 6 months and above who have not yet received the new coronavirus XBB vaccine to go for vaccination. The main transmission route of tuberculosis is through airborne and droplet transmission. Common symptoms include coughing, chest pain, weight loss, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Individuals experiencing persistent coughing for more than two weeks are advised to undergo a lung X-ray examination immediately.

The Health Bureau advocates that blood donation activities inject a warm stream of goodwill into society. Every act of kindness will become a continuation of life and hope. In addition to blood donation, eligible individuals are encouraged to undergo health screenings.
