The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York has reminded the public that the yellow MetroCard will officially cease to be sold on December 31. They have also announced on their website the service hours and locations of 102 mobile stations spread across the city and Westchester County, allowing residents to transfer the balance from their MetroCard to the new generation “Tap and Ride” OMNY card (One Metro New York).
Recently, MTA has added 15 customer service centers to assist passengers in transitioning systems. They have also continued to dispatch mobile service vehicles to the five major administrative districts of New York City and neighboring areas, providing comprehensive services in one go.
Shanifah Rieara, MTA’s Customer Experience Director, stated that the mobile service vehicles enable passengers to “quickly and conveniently switch to the OMNY card,” while benefiting from the time and cost savings of contactless payment. She emphasized that the MetroCard is about to become history, and “Tap and Ride” is the future.
At the mobile service vehicle locations, individuals can conduct various activities, including transferring MetroCard balances to OMNY cards, purchasing or recharging OMNY cards, applying for Reduced-Fare cards, and inquiring about OMNY-related issues.
Passengers can find the working hours and locations of the mobile service vehicles on the MTA website at https://www.mta.info. It is recommended for the public to call 511 before heading to the service locations to confirm details.
