Yearly performance of 57 semiconductor companies in China expected to decline or incur losses

Recently, Chinese A-share semiconductor companies have successively released their performance forecasts for 2024. Due to factors such as declining market demand and intense competition, 57 Chinese semiconductor companies are expected to see a decline in last year’s performance or fall into losses, with 30 companies continuing to operate at a loss.

According to Wind data, as of January 22, a total of 82 companies have made early announcements about their 2024 performance.

Based on statistics from “21st Century Business Herald,” among these 82 listed semiconductor companies that announced performance forecasts, 22 companies saw a year-on-year increase in net profit, 2 companies turned losses around, 11 companies forecasted a decrease, 30 companies continued to operate at a loss, and 16 companies reported their first loss, with 1 company uncertain about its performance.

Leading in terms of net profit growth rate is Demingli, expected to achieve a net profit of approximately 340-400 million yuan in 2024, compared to 25 million yuan in 2023.

Statistics show that 57 companies experienced a decline in performance or fell into losses in 2024. For instance, 16 companies such as Canray Technology, Source Technology, and Microchip Star reported their first loss. Additionally, companies like Cambrian-Unit, National Technology, and JHwa Tech among the 30 companies continued to operate at a loss.

As a leading Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) chip enterprise, Cambrian-Unit anticipates a net loss of 396-484 million yuan in 2024.

Furthermore, China’s largest analog circuit semiconductor company, Wingtech Technology, predicts a net loss of 3-4 billion yuan in 2024, marking the first occurrence of a loss since the company went public.

Among the 11 profitable companies such as SMIC, ZTE Micro, and TowerJazz, their net profits saw a slight decline compared to the previous year.

Among the companies reporting their first loss, a significant portion are part of the photovoltaic industry chain, where semiconductors are the main material for photovoltaic cells. Time Creation Energy focuses on photovoltaic wet process auxiliary products, equipment, and cells, expecting a net loss of 610-730 million yuan in 2024, a decrease of 444.83% to 512.66%.

Furthermore, companies like Aura Semiconductor, Eastsun Technologies, and Tongwei Co., Ltd., all part of the photovoltaic industry chain, posted losses in 2024, indicating the impact of the overall adjustment in the photovoltaic industry.

Additionally, among the companies reporting their first loss currently, two are silicon wafer semiconductor enterprises, including Shanghai Silicon Industry and Leon Micro, with losses of 840 million to 1 billion yuan and 255 million yuan, respectively.
