Almost every day, I think of my Hong Kong, the landscape, the cityscape, and the friends and family there, all lingering in my mind. In this lifetime, I hope to have the opportunity to revisit my old dreams in Hong Kong. If not, then let my spirit roam, overlooking from Victoria Peak, praying and blessing my Hong Kong.
This passage is excerpted from a new book titled “Hong Kong: My Love and Pain.” Only those who have escaped to Hong Kong and then left again may have such profound feelings of gratitude and affection for Hong Kong.
The author of this book is named Yan Chung Gau. He has worked for several newspapers in Hong Kong and later became the chief editor of Tian Di Publishing Company. In recent years, his insightful and profound commentary on Hong Kong, mainland China, and even international affairs has gained popularity on the internet and social media, attracting many readers.
His connection to Hong Kong dates back to 1978 when he fled from the mainland with his family to Hong Kong. At that time, he was “at a loss, with a clear conscience.” Now in his 70s, after 40 years of living in Hong Kong, he has not only fulfilled his literary dreams but also achieved success beyond his own expectations.
