Xiaomi’s SU7 New Car Breaks Down Just 39 Kilometers After Hitting the Highway

In recent days, a car owner from Xiamen experienced a breakdown after driving only 39 kilometers in the newly delivered Xiaomi SU7 vehicle, leading to public concern over the quality of Xiaomi electric cars.

On May 6th, Mr. Wen from Xiamen, Fujian Province, posted a video on social media claiming that his newly purchased Xiaomi SU7 broke down on the highway just after leaving the 4S dealership, having driven 39 kilometers before needing to be towed back to the delivery center.

The video showed a Xiaomi SU7 parked by the roadside, with its headlights flickering on and off. As the camera zoomed in, the screen display system immediately prompted: “Vehicle will shut down soon, please safely pull over and contact the online service center.” The screen then displayed another warning: “Drive system malfunction, unable to shift gears.”

In a low voice heard off-camera, Mr. Wen remarked, “I just got this Xiaomi and only drove 39 kilometers. Has this car broken down already?”

Subsequently, Mr. Wen changed his name on social media to “Unluckiest Xiaomi SU7 Owner” and stated: “The after-sales service won’t repair it, won’t replace it either. If I want a replacement, I have to wait for a new production slot. I want a replacement, not a refund. Currently, the vehicle is still at the delivery center.”

Chat screenshots shared by Mr. Wen showed Xiaomi customer service personnel negotiating a refund with him. The customer service representative confirmed the vehicle malfunction in the chat but stated that the reason needed further analysis and it was temporarily unrepairable.

On May 7th, Xiaomi customer service responded to mainland media reporters, stating that they were negotiating a refund with Mr. Wen.

This incident has raised public concerns about the quality of Xiaomi electric cars.

Netizen “Hehe_61069” commented: “Thank goodness there wasn’t an accident on the highway.”

“Grasp the Forget-Me-Not” said: “As long as there’s a full refund, just buy another car quickly, cut losses in time.”

“Battered by the Wind and Rain” commented: “The first batch of owners must be getting nervous.”

“Ultra-man the Pot” remarked: “Having a breakdown after just 39 kilometers, if the new model car’s after-sales service lacks sincerity, it might face the wrath of the entire internet, considering how many are watching.”

“Rice Mouse Stealing Oil” added: “Xiaomi’s quality is really worrying, indeed, lacking experience in car manufacturing.”

Automobile expert and Weibo influencer “Car Onion Circle” posted: “For the first car of any startup car company, caution is advised: Whether the quality/control of the first car made by a startup car company can withstand scrutiny requires time to verify.”

Since its launch, the Xiaomi SU7 has remained embroiled in a swirl of public opinion, facing a series of criticisms such as “no deposit refund,” “seat bulging,” “un-delivered paint peeling,” “cutting corners in manufacturing,” and “test drive cars facing consecutive issues,” many of which have made their way to the trending lists.
