Xiaomi Smart Door Lock Mistakes Identity, Scares Homeowner by Opening the Door for Delivery Person.

Recently, a user posted a complaint online, stating that they mistakenly used their Xiaomi smart door lock to unlock the door for a delivery driver. The incident, which occurred last year, has raised concerns after the news was exposed.

According to the user’s post, on that particular night, the user ordered food for delivery. When the delivery driver arrived and hung the food on the doorknob, the smart door lock activated its facial recognition feature and mistook the delivery driver for the user, thus directly unlocking the door. At that time, the user was in bed studying, and upon realizing what happened, quickly took a selfie as evidence to prove that they were indeed in bed when the door unlocked. The user then opened the door, only to find the delivery driver looking bewildered.

On August 12th, Mr. Shi, the person who made the post, informed “Later Wave Video” that the smart door lock was purchased in October last year. He was resting that night and had instructed the delivery driver to leave the food at the door. When the delivery driver put down the food and turned to leave, the smart door lock suddenly activated its facial recognition function, automatically unlocking itself. Simultaneously, a message on Mr. Shi’s phone confirmed that the door was unlocked by the owner “outside the door.”

Mr. Shi stated that the problematic door lock model was the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Pro. Upon discovering that a stranger had unlocked the door, he immediately contacted Xiaomi customer service, who reassured him that an engineer would be sent to inspect and repair the lock.

According to a report by “Economic Vision Live,” Mr. Shi admitted that this was the first time such an incident had occurred since using the smart door lock. However, there had been occasional recognition failures in the past, where it took a second attempt to successfully unlock the door. He believed that due to varying light conditions and angles, such failures might occur. He expressed his confusion and surprise, stating, “Rejecting the truth is acceptable, but accepting falsehoods is unacceptable. I find it very puzzling and bewildering.”

In response, Xiaomi customer service stated that they would record and verify the situation, emphasizing that if consumers encounter similar issues with the smart door lock they purchased, they should contact Xiaomi customer service immediately. A technician would be promptly arranged to inspect the lock, and the issue would be reported to headquarters for further follow-up.

This is not the first time that Xiaomi smart door locks have encountered problems. Users have taken to social media to express their experiences, such as “The Xiaomi smart lock at home has automatically unlocked multiple times,” “Never buy Xiaomi’s fingerprint lock; it breaks immediately after the warranty period,” “My Xiaomi door lock sometimes goes off on its own, I reported it saying my door lock is crazy,” and “It’s not the first time I’ve brushed against the Xiaomi smart lock and unlocked it automatically.”

On August 13th, the topic of Xiaomi smart door lock misidentification leading to the door being unlocked surged to the top of Weibo’s hot search list.

Many netizens expressed their concerns, stating, “It’s a bit scary that strangers are verified as homeowners and can unlock the door,” “Xiaomi door lock, a thief’s paradise,” and “Nowadays, regardless of the brand of smart lock, they’re all unreliable.”
