Xiaomi Group executive Wang Teng dismissed for leaking secrets

Late on the night of September 8, Xiaomi Group in mainland China issued an internal announcement, dismissing Wang Teng, the General Manager of the China Market Department and the General Manager of the REDMI brand, for serious violations including leaking company confidential information. The news has attracted public attention.

In the evening of September 8, Xiaomi Group’s Professional Ethics Committee sent out an email notification to the internal staff, reporting the disciplinary decision regarding Wang Teng. The email stated that after the company’s investigation confirmed Wang Teng’s involvement in leaking company confidential information and conflicts of interest, among other serious violations, the company decided to terminate his employment in accordance with relevant regulations.

As one of the well-known senior executives within Xiaomi, Wang Teng also boasts a large following of over 1.78 million fans on the Weibo platform, drawing significant attention to his every move from the public.

Shortly after the incident came to light, Wang Teng swiftly responded on his personal Weibo account “王騰Thomas” by expressing his apologies and acknowledging his past mistakes, accepting the consequences. He also expressed gratitude towards Xiaomi Group and its management for their years of nurturing and trust, planning to take a break before embarking on a new journey, while pledging continued support for Xiaomi and REDMI in the future.

Currently, Wang Teng’s Weibo account verification has been revoked, and his job information within Xiaomi is no longer visible.

From November 2021 to August 2023, Wang Teng was seconded to Xiaomi’s Henan branch, accumulating valuable experience in offline regional market sales and operations.

In September 2023, Wang Teng returned to Xiaomi headquarters as the spokesperson for the REDMI brand, the General Manager of the Market Department, spearheading the implementation of a brand rejuvenation strategy. In February 2024, he succeeded Lu Weibing as the General Manager of the REDMI brand, overseeing the brand’s operations and product planning. In May of the same year, Wang Teng also took on the role of Deputy General Manager of the Xiaomi China Market Department, responsible for e-commerce and retail sectors. By the end of December 2024, he was further promoted to the General Manager of the Xiaomi China Market Department while retaining his position as the REDMI brand General Manager, becoming one of the core managers in Xiaomi’s mobile phone business.

Rumors about Wang Teng leaking information were circulating online, including a post shared on his own Weibo account mocking Wang Teng for frequently leaking secrets and being fined.

Wang Teng’s last public appearance was on August 21 this year, during the launch of the REDMI Note 15 series, which also turned out to be the last smartphone he presented.
