On the afternoon of January 25th, during the “Year of the Dragon Finale Live Stream” by Xiaomi founder Lei Jun, the broadcast suddenly interrupted as netizens captured screenshots showing Lei Jun live streaming while driving, which led to public attention.
At 1:44 pm on the 25th, a netizen posted a video claiming to have reported Lei Jun for streaming while driving. The “Live Broadcast Result Notification” screenshot released by the netizen at 1:57 pm that day indicated that the violation was confirmed, and the user was subjected to “interrupted broadcast room” treatment.
The netizen also stated, “Sorry Lei Zong, I just wanted to try it out, didn’t expect it to be shut down so quickly.”
According to a report by Hong Kong’s “Ming Pao”, the live broadcast occurred across various platforms including Douyin, Bilibili, Video Number, Weibo, and Xiaohongshu, with only the Douyin live stream being shut down.
However, an hour after the broadcast was interrupted, Lei Jun resumed streaming at 2:52 pm on the same day and ended the live stream at 3:17 pm.
Industry insiders analyzing the situation told The Paper that Douyin’s decision to ban accounts is based on machine judgment and manual review, indicating that the issue might have been primarily due to machine judgment, and currently, there are no abnormal activities on Lei Jun’s account.
On January 26th, “Lei Jun suddenly banned during live stream” trended as the top topic on Weibo.
In the morning of the 26th, Lei Jun posted on Weibo, “Wishing everyone an early Happy New Year and reminding everyone to drive safely!”
Reportedly, this is not the first time Lei Jun has live streamed on Douyin while driving. In May of last year, Lei Jun streamed a journey from Shanghai to Hangzhou in an SUV, showcasing Xiaomi’s smart driving capabilities throughout the trip.
As for the reason Lei Jun was banned this time, there has been no response from Douyin, and Xiaomi has also not commented on the matter.
