During the New Year period, accidents caused by fireworks have been occurring frequently. Recently, a woman from Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, was driving her Mercedes-Benz back to her hometown to celebrate the New Year, only to see her car turn into scrap iron due to a fire caused by fireworks.
A viral video circulating online shows two cars engulfed in flames in front of a village temple in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. In the video, a villager can be heard saying, “It’s on fire, come put it out, it’s burning, it’s still exploding, there’s no time to put out the fire.” As a result, onlookers watched helplessly as the two cars were reduced to scrap metal, and the villagers filming the incident felt regretful. However, the female owner of the burned Mercedes-Benz seemed quite composed, standing in front of her ruined car taking photos and posting online, saying, “A turn of fortune, wishing everyone a prosperous new year.”
According to Ms. Xiong, the female car owner, she and her family drove to the village on the first day of the Lunar New Year to pay their respects, parking the car in front of the temple. About half an hour later, she received a phone call informing her that her car was on fire. “The fire started from a nearby car and spread over, resulting in both cars being burnt,” she explained.
Some netizens posted claiming that the cause of the fire was the adjacent car parked on the remnants of discharged fireworks, leading to the fire that damaged Ms. Xiong’s Mercedes-Benz, ultimately turning both cars into frames.
According to Ms. Xiong, the Mercedes-Benz was only purchased a year ago for over 400,000 yuan, and she is unsure how the insurance company will assess the damage.
