Recently in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, a woman got into a dispute with McDonald’s cleaning staff after a table was not cleaned promptly to her satisfaction. The woman insulted and even slapped the staff members who tried to advise her, calling them “garbage” and boasting that she knew many policemen.
According to Guangzhou Daily, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on August 19th. The woman was upset that the McDonald’s cleaning lady had not cleared the food left by a male customer in a timely manner, leading to a confrontation. She then went to the front desk to complain about the cleaning lady, causing a scene by loudly berating the staff, which disrupted all the diners present.
Video footage from the scene shows McDonald’s staff trying to calm the situation by saying, “There’s no need to be so aggressive about clearing a plate.” However, the woman escalated the situation by insulting the staff even further, calling them “low-quality” and “rubbish,” and even physically striking one of the employees.
When a male customer tried to intervene, the woman turned her aggression towards him, demanding an apology. The male customer then called the police, but the woman knocked his phone out of his hand and angrily told him to shut up and leave.
After the male customer left, the woman continued to loudly proclaim to the staff, “I know many police officers.”
Witnessing the woman’s increasingly agitated behavior, McDonald’s staff warned her that they had already called the police. Subsequently, the woman left with a minor girl in a huff.
On August 20th, McDonald’s staff reported that one staff member who was on duty was physically assaulted by the woman and had to take three days off work. With the assistance of the police, the woman compensated the staff member with 2000 RMB for medical expenses. However, the woman later filed a complaint with McDonald’s hotline, demanding a refund of 2000 RMB and compensation for her losses. It was reported that the woman claimed to have sustained injuries during the police intervention, hence her compensation demands.
On the 21st, local authorities announced that after reviewing relevant videos and interviewing witnesses, it was determined that a 41-year-old woman named Fang had engaged in verbal abuse and physically assaulted the restaurant staff and other customers during her meal. As a result, she was handed a 5-day administrative detention penalty.
