A groom in Brazil collapsed in front of his bride and many guests during their wedding ceremony due to overwhelming emotions. Fortunately, the officiating pastor noticed it in time and rushed forward to catch him by his clothes, preventing him from getting injured from hitting the ground. With the pastor’s and others’ prompt first aid, the groom regained consciousness and successfully completed the wedding.
According to the New York Post, the 25-year-old groom, Gustavo Schmitz, and his 23-year-old bride, Pâmela Berto, held their wedding on June 7 in Salete, a small town with a population of only 7,000 people.
Schmitz, who currently works as a teacher, usually takes medication for anxiety. He mentioned that the preparations for the wedding week were intense, leaving him feeling extremely busy, especially on the wedding day itself.
He said, “The day was already hectic – guests had arrived, and there were so many things to take care of. I was already out of breath right from the start.”
He informed some attendants that he was feeling unwell, but they did not believe him because he was known for his “jokes.”
When he saw his beloved Berto walking down the aisle in the church during the wedding, overwhelming emotions flooded over him, causing him to collapse in no time.
He mentioned that after Berto walked down the red carpet and met him at the altar, the pastor began the ceremony. He informed Berto that he was feeling unwell. As he was still joking at that time, she believed him but did not realize how serious the situation was.
Shortly afterward, he fell backward completely, and the pastor and guests immediately rushed to help. He said, “When I fainted, she (Berto) grabbed my suit jacket, but I fell on her dress, and she couldn’t hold me up. The pastor ran over and caught my sleeve, preventing my head from hitting the ground.”
He added that one of his friends who is a doctor quickly checked his pulse and provided first aid with the pastor. After a while, he regained consciousness and continued with the wedding.
Despite the unexpected fainting incident, Schmitz mentioned that the wedding ultimately turned out to be “beautiful and amazing.”
In response to Schmitz fainting at the wedding, many netizens have commented on the situation. Some speculated that he might have been too tired from the bachelor party the night before. Others joked, “I’ve seen this situation several times…every time it’s the groom (who faints).” Some even humorously said, “If I were him, I would cancel the wedding out of embarrassment and then lock myself in a cave for the rest of my life.”
