In a recent incident in France, a man in his 60s accidentally left his wife behind at a highway rest area while out on a trip with her and their daughter. It wasn’t until he had driven 300 kilometers that he realized his wife was not in the car. Fortunately, with the assistance of the police, he was able to locate his wife and drive back to pick her up before continuing on their journey.
According to a report by the French magazine “Entrevue,” the man in his 60s was driving with his wife and 22-year-old daughter from Paris to Morocco for a vacation, and they stopped at a highway rest area in Deux-Sevres province around 4 a.m. on July 5.
The man continued driving without realizing his wife was missing from the car. It wasn’t until he reached Saugnac-et-Muret, 300 kilometers away, that he noticed his wife was not with them. Unable to locate her, he immediately contacted the authorities.
The police started an investigation and questioned the man and his daughter to retrace their steps. Since the daughter had been asleep in the car and unaware of her father leaving her mother behind, she couldn’t provide any clues to the police.
Initially, there were suspicions that the man had intentionally forgotten his wife, but tracking her phone led authorities to find her safe and unharmed at the rest area 300 kilometers away.
Although this incident was unexpected, it did not have serious consequences. The man eventually turned back to pick up his wife before continuing their family trip.
Similar incidents of husbands leaving their wives behind halfway have occurred before, like one in Thailand.
In a previous report by Dajiyuan, on December 25, 2022, a 55-year-old Thai man named Boontom Chaimon unintentionally left his 49-year-old wife, Amnuay Chaimoon, behind in Maha Sarakham Province, their hometown.
Stopping the car on the side of the road due to a need for a restroom break, Boontom went into the nearby woods to relieve himself. Amnuay followed suit, but Boontom failed to notice her when he got back into the car and drove off. It was only when she returned that she realized Boontom had driven off without her, leaving her stranded.
Amnuay had to walk 20 kilometers to the nearest police station for assistance, arriving around 5 a.m. The police were able to contact Boontom around 8 a.m., who by then had driven 160 kilometers away, unaware that his wife was not in the car as he assumed she was sleeping in the back seat.
