【Epoch Times News, November 10, 2025】 Koenigsegg produces the world’s most expensive supercars. Yet, the CEO of the company commutes in a Toyota that is not “super.” Why is that?
According to a report by “USA Today” on November 8, Koenigsegg is a Swedish high-performance sports car manufacturer known for its extraordinary supercars. These exceptional cars come with astonishing price tags ranging from $1.7 million to $3.65 million, depending on the model. Surprisingly, as shown in an
Instagram post
earlier this year, the brand’s affluent CEO, Christian von Koenigsegg, is seen commuting in a Toyota car.
Toyota produces some of the world’s most popular models, from the compact and durable Toyota Corolla to the practical and robust Toyota Grand Highlander, and the best-selling RAV4. Additionally, Toyota manufactures efficient hybrid vehicles like the Prius and exciting sports cars like the GR Supra. So, what Toyota model does the Koenigsegg CEO fancy?
Von Koenigsegg commutes daily in a Toyota GR Yaris. “GR” abbreviates Gazoo Racing, Toyota’s racing division that engages in various motorsport events, constantly challenging Toyota’s engineering limits. Toyota sells three Gazoo Racing models in the US market: GR Supra, GR86, and GR Corolla. Von Koenigsegg’s GR Yaris hatchback is sold in multiple countries and regions including Europe, Asia, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Due to sales trends, the Yaris model is no longer available in the US and Canada.
According to Top Gear, the starting price of GR Yaris is around €42,690, approximately $46,707.34. Therefore, despite the Koenigsegg CEO’s remarkable wealth and company background, he drives a car priced at less than $50,000. What makes this compact hatchback special? Why did Von Koenigsegg choose to drive a regular car over a supercar?
The latest Toyota GR Yaris features a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 280 horsepower and 287 pound-feet of torque. While this may not seem powerful at first glance, considering the extremely compact size of the GR Yaris, it is quite impressive. Weighing only around 2821 pounds, it can reach a top speed of 143 mph with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of around 5.2 seconds.
Indeed, the CEO of Koenigsegg could afford almost any mass-produced car on the market, yet for a budget-friendly hatchback, the Toyota GR Yaris offers remarkable speed, enhanced by its unique body styling and dimensions, adding to the driving enjoyment. Hence, small turbocharged Japanese models like the GR Yaris continue to attract numerous affluent consumers.
Toyota stands out from other automakers through its focus on manufacturing quality and emerging trends. While Toyota’s best-selling models are mainstream sedans and SUVs like the Camry and RAV4, the brand also excels in the high-performance car segment. Toyota MR2, Supra, and 86 are also cherished by sports car enthusiasts.
A study by iSeeCars.com indicates that the top five most durable car models are all produced by Toyota.
