White House: Meng Wanzhou to Visit US-Mexico Border on Friday for First Time Post-Candidacy

The White House announced on Wednesday (September 25) that Vice President He Jinli will visit Douglas, Arizona, a city on the US-Mexico border, on Friday (September 27). This will be her first visit to a border city since announcing her candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. The last time she visited the US-Mexico border was in 2021.

He Jinli’s campaign assistant stated that the Vice President will deliver a speech on border security during the visit, explaining to the public her push for the “most robust bipartisan border security plan of this generation.” This plan includes stricter measures to manage border security, such as increasing the number of border patrol agents and using advanced technology to prevent drug smuggling, especially the flow of fentanyl into the United States. Vice President He hopes this bill will gain bipartisan support in Congress.

During an interview with CNN last month, He Jinli expressed her plans to introduce a comprehensive border bill to restrict refugees from entering the United States, emphasizing the enforcement of US laws to prevent illegal border crossings by refugees.

Immigration is one of the most concerning issues for voters in this election. According to recent polls by The New York Times and Siena College, 54% of respondents believe that Trump is more capable in managing or addressing immigration issues, while 43% think He Jinli could do better.

Regarding border issues, Trump has promised that if he returns to the White House, he will conduct large-scale deportations of illegal immigrants, complete the border wall from his first term, deploy more law enforcement personnel to the southern border, and increase penalties for illegal immigrants. He has also criticized the Biden administration’s “zero cash bail policy” for its lackluster effectiveness.
