Recently, magnificent waterfall clouds have once again appeared in various parts of Lushan, Jiangxi Province.
In recent days, at the Lushan Small Tianchi and Yantianping areas, mist surged from the mountains, connecting with the clouds in the sky. Utilizing the terrain of the gorge and the northerly winds, the waterfall clouds gradually took shape, with massive clouds cascading down from the mountaintops, stretching down to the foot of the mountain, like layers upon layers of clouds meandering through peaks and valleys, resembling a picturesque scene painted by a master artist.
In recent years, Lushan has witnessed spectacular waterfall cloud displays multiple times.
In January 2023, the Gu Ling area of Lushan, Jiangxi, presented a magnificent scene of “endless sea of clouds swirling around the mountain city, with peaks hidden amidst the misty waves.” Amidst the misty shadows, the Han Yang peak towered into the clouds, while Qing Lake shimmered like a bright mirror. The Small Tianchi waterfall clouds rushed and flowed, creating a harmonious blend of sky, mountains, clouds, and the city, displaying a vibrant scene of “the vast beauty of Lushan where heaven and earth merge, and the mountain and river scenery unfolds,” attracting countless tourists to admire the winter beauty.
“The houses in Lushan coexist with the scenery, feeling exceptionally beautiful, and the scenery is truly breathtaking,” said excited tourist Qian Haonan from Shangrao.
In November 2022, in early winter, Lushan witnessed the grand spectacle of both the clear day waterfall clouds and sun halo. In various locations such as Gu Ling, Hanpokou, Small Tianchi, and Wulao Peak in Lushan, clouds and mist surged forward along mountain ridges and valleys, surging and billowing, forming magnificent waterfall cloud displays near the Lihtoujian area of Hanpokou.
Located to the north of the Yangtze River and to the south of Poyang Lake, Lushan is a mountain shrouded in clouds and mist. According to meteorological records, Lushan has an average of about 200 misty days per year, with a maximum of 223 days. The months from May to September are the peak periods for the appearance of the cloud sea and cloud waterfall on Lushan. Compared to the cloud sea, the occurrence of Lushan’s waterfall clouds is much rarer during this concentrated period from May to September.
