Wans starts visiting Italy and India this week with family

Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, will depart with his family for visits to Italy and India this Friday (April 18) to meet with leaders of both countries and explore cultural landmarks.

Vance’s office announced on Wednesday that he will be traveling from April 18 to 24, making stops in Italy and India. The specific itinerary includes visits to Rome in Italy, as well as the Indian capital New Delhi and two other cities, Jaipur and Agra.

Vance will be accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance and their children on this trip.

This visit marks Vice President Vance’s first visit to India since taking office, and holds significance for the second family as Usha Vance is a daughter of Indian immigrants. Usha is the first Indian-American to serve as the Second Lady of the United States.

The first stop on Vance’s itinerary will be Rome, where he is scheduled to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, following Meloni’s visit to the White House on Thursday.

Vance will also meet with the Vatican Secretary of State and Cardinal Pietro Parolin. According to Vance’s office, he converted to Catholicism in 2019 and is expected to participate in events around Easter.

The Second Family will then travel to India, where Vance will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, followed by visits to Jaipur and Agra. Vance’s office stated that the family will participate in local activities and visit cultural landmarks.

Vance’s visits to Italy and India come amidst the Trump administration’s new tariff policies. Both India and Italy, as part of the EU, are facing repercussions from the tariffs announced by the Trump administration.

Trump has currently ordered a 90-day suspension of these tariffs.

This week’s visit signifies Vance’s third international trip as Vice President, highlighting his significant role in the Trump administration’s foreign policy. Previously, he traveled to Germany and France in February and attended a security conference. Last month, he and his wife also visited Greenland, as Trump expressed interest in acquiring this semi-autonomous territory owned by Denmark.
