Wang Xiangkui of Taiwanese descent appointed as the first principal of the Gateway branch of the Connecticut Community College

Connecticut State Community College Appoints Dr. Shiang-Kwei Wang as Gateway Campus’s First Campus Principal

Connecticut State Community College (CT State Community College) appointed Dr. Shiang-Kwei Wang, a Taiwanese descent, as the first principal of the Gateway Campus in June this year. She is one of the seven campus principals appointed by the college.

Dr. O. John Maduko, the President of Connecticut State Community College, stated that Dr. Wang’s experience and expertise will help enhance student success, strengthen workforce development, support faculty and staff, and advance the college’s goals.

Originally born and raised in Taiwan, Dr. Wang previously served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the Hostos Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY). Before that, she held the position of Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Harold Washington College in Chicago. Her career includes roles as Research Director at Queensborough Community College (QCC) and as Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary Research and Education at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). At NYIT, she was a tenured professor responsible for guiding technical projects and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, as well as serving on various professional organization committees.

Dr. Wang’s research focuses on STEM education, cognitive tools, and teaching practices. She has been invited to share her teaching practices utilizing generative artificial intelligence technology at multiple conferences and has led seminars. City&State named her one of the “Top 2024 Power of Diversity:Asian 100.”

Expressing her gratitude, Dr. Wang stated that she is honored to join the faculty of Connecticut State Community College at the Gateway Campus. She looks forward to collaborating with outstanding faculty, students, and community partners to expand opportunities, deepen impact, and establish a shared vision for the future.

The Gateway Campus is located in downtown New Haven, Connecticut. In July 2023, the 12 independent community colleges in Connecticut merged to form Connecticut State Community College, with Gateway Campus being a part of it.
