Taiwan’s second wave of legislative recall voting is scheduled to take place on August 23. The Central Election Commission (CEC) recently announced the reasons for recall and defense statements for seven legislators, while explanatory meetings on legislative recalls were also held in Nantou County, New Taipei City, Taichung City, and Hsinchu County.
According to the CEC, eligible voters without a voting notification can still bring their national identification card to vote. The CEC has released announcements with full links to the reasons for recall and defense statements for the following seven legislators:
– Ma Wenjun from the 1st District of Nantou County
– You Hao from the 2nd District of Nantou County
– Luo Mingcai from the 11th District of New Taipei City
– Yan Kuanheng from the 2nd District of Taichung City
– Yang Qiongyong from the 3rd District of Taichung City
– Jiang Qichen from the 8th District of Taichung City
– Lin Siming from the 2nd District of Hsinchu County
The TV explanatory meeting for the second round of recall voting in Taiwan was held from August 13 to 15. On the 13th, New Taipei City held a TV explanatory meeting for the recall of Luo Mingcai, who was absent and deemed to have forfeited.
On the 15th, Nantou County Election Commission organized a TV explanatory meeting for the recall of Ma Wenjun and You Hao, both of whom were absent and deemed to have forfeited.
If a recall case is approved, the recalled person should relinquish their position from the date of the announcement of the voting results and is prohibited from running for the same public office in the same district for the next four years. If the recall case is rejected, no one can propose a recall again until the legislator’s term ends.
