As the voting day for the 2024 presidential election approaches, voters in Los Angeles County and Orange County will soon receive a voter guide containing information about all candidates and ballot measures.
Dean Logan, the director of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC), announced on Friday (27th) that the “Sample Ballot Book” for the November election will be gradually sent to all registered voters.
The presidential election voting day is scheduled for November 5th this year. The “Sample Ballot Book” provides all essential information about the election, including how to vote, where to vote, the voting deadline, statements from local candidates, all ballot measures, local proposition contents and analyses, among other details.
According to data from the Secretary of State’s website, Los Angeles County has approximately 6.145 million eligible citizens, with over 5.79 million registered voters. The “Sample Ballot Book” has been translated into 18 different languages, allowing voters to request reference materials in different languages from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk based on their own needs. Voters can also track their mailed ballots through the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s official website and check their voter registration status.
Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk will continue to mail out the “Sample Ballot Book” to all voters before October 26th, and will start sending out official mail-in ballots (Vote by Mail) from October 3rd. Due to printing and production processes, some voters may receive their mail-in ballots first before the “Sample Ballot Book.”
In addition, the Orange County Registrar of Voters has already begun mailing out the “Voter Information Guide” to local voters. Riverside County Registrar of Voters will be sending out the “County Voter Information Guide” to every voter who registered at least 29 days before the election, from September 26th to October 26th. San Diego County Registrar of Voters is currently mailing out the “Voter Information Pamphlet” to its 1.9 million registered voters.
California law stipulates that U.S. citizens who have not registered as voters must do so at least 15 days before the election day (by October 21st). If there are changes in address, signature, or party affiliation, individuals are required to promptly update their information with the Registrar of Voters.
For example, the San Diego County Registrar of Voters reminds all voters that if they have recently moved, changed their name, or wish to change party affiliation, they must re-register in order to vote.
If a voter misses the registration deadline, they must go to the Registrar of Voters for “Same-Day Voter Registration,” also known as conditional voting, and personally go to the Registrar of Voters’ office or polling place to receive a ballot. However, these votes will only be counted after the Registrar of Voters’ staff verifies the voter’s identity.
