Vietnamese Wood Factory Explosion: At Least 6 Dead, Including One Chinese Citizen

A suspected boiler explosion at a wood factory in Dong Nai province in southern Vietnam on Wednesday (May 1) has resulted in the deaths of six people, including one Chinese citizen, according to local authorities.

The explosion, as reported by Vietnam News Agency, also caused multiple injuries. The People’s Committee of Dong Nai province has provided condolences and financial assistance to the families of the victims. Families of the deceased have received 20 million Vietnamese dong (equivalent to $789) each. Additionally, the government has allocated 10 million Vietnamese dong to each injured person.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The injured were taken to Thong Nhat General Hospital in the province and other medical facilities for treatment. The factory is owned by Sunrise Wood Trading Production company in Vinh Cuu district.

Vietnamese media reports suggest that approximately 30 employees were working at the scene when the explosion took place.

Phạm Văn Dũng, the director of Thong Nhat Hospital, told Vietnam News Agency that one of the victims brought to the hospital is in critical condition.

Thong Nhat General Hospital has dispatched ambulances to the scene to provide emergency assistance to the victims.

The cause of the accident is suspected to be a boiler explosion. Authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident. Images related to the incident show that a part of the building has collapsed.

According to news website VNExpress, an eyewitness stated, “Upon arriving at the scene, I witnessed a horrific sight: debris scattered everywhere, and there were several bodies in the yard.”
