Victim: Human trafficker Yu Hua-ying sentenced to death with no remorse

【Epoch Times, October 25, 2024】The retrial of Yu Huaying, who was convicted of trafficking 17 children, was held on October 25th at the Intermediate People’s Court in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. Yu Huaying was once again sentenced to death. According to one of the victims, Yang Nüehua, Yu Huaying showed no remorse whatsoever.

Early on the 25th, many family members of the victims arrived at the courthouse, awaiting the outcome of the trial. “I just hope she gets the death penalty,” said a mother whose son was abducted, her youngest son Ren Peng was taken in July 19, 1994.

The court had accused Yu Huaying of collaborating with Gong and Wang from 1993 to 2003 to kidnap and sell children in Guizhou, Yunnan, Chongqing, and other areas for profit.

Given that Yu Huaying trafficked 17 children, resulting in 12 families being torn apart, the parents of the 17 children have been searching for their missing offspring for years, with some parents succumbing to depression, others experiencing family breakdowns, and some facing tragic fates. The consequences of her crimes are particularly severe, leading to Yu Huaying being sentenced to death with confiscation of all personal property. Yu Huaying declared she would appeal the verdict.

After the sentencing, Yang Nüehua and her sister left the courthouse in tears, expressing their determination to pursue the civil lawsuit attached to the case.

As reported by The Paper on the 24th, Yang Nüehua had submitted a civil compensation claim of over 9.2 million yuan to the court. However, she also mentioned, “I know her financial capacity and that she cannot afford to compensate, but increasing the figure is a warning to traffickers, so that everyone knows the high cost of child trafficking crimes and deters them from doing so.”

Yang Nüehua revealed that after being sold, both her parents passed away, and she grew up under the scrutiny and rumours of others.

She told The Paper that when people hear about 17 children being trafficked, they may only see it as a number. However, behind each of these cases are broken families, tragic separations, and even deaths, and Yu Huaying has shown no remorse.

Yang Nüehua described Yu Huaying’s demeanor during the trial, stating, “When Yu Huaying was brought to the court for the retrial, she looked at me with half-closed eyes and a slightly raised chin for more than 10 seconds.” She added, “I could feel that she regarded me as an enemy rather than as someone she had inflicted harm upon.”

“When we questioned her, she became suddenly excited, raised her head slightly, looked straight at us as we debated, and spoke in a loud voice, showing no signs of remorse or repentance,” she stated.

Regarding the verdict, Yang Nüehua expressed, “We have prepared for the worst, and if she appeals, we will have to follow it through, there is no other way.”
