Vice President Tong Wentao of ICBC Asset Management Business Center Under Investigation

On May 9, the official website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Communist Party of China announced that Tong Wentao, former Deputy General Manager of the Asset Management Business Center of China Construction Bank, is undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation.

Public information indicates that Tong Wentao is 57 years old. He joined China Construction Bank in 1995 and worked there for 23 years until 2018. During his tenure, he held various senior positions in several departments of the Fujian Branch of China Construction Bank, as well as positions such as General Manager of a branch, Deputy General Manager of the Credit Approval Department at the head office, and Deputy General Manager of the Asset Management Business Center.

After leaving China Construction Bank, Tong Wentao entered the real estate industry.

In September 2018, the Hong Kong-listed company, Fu Sheng International, announced the appointment of Tong Wentao as an Executive Director and Group CEO. Fu Sheng International introduced Tong Wentao as having extensive work experience and knowledge in bank operation management and investment bank asset management.

In June 2020, Fu Sheng International announced that Tong Wentao resigned as Executive Director and Group CEO “to allocate more time to handle other businesses.”

Tong Wentao left Fu Sheng International and joined the Zhonggeng Group.

In August 2020, Zhonggeng Group announced the appointment of Tong Wentao as the Group CEO. According to Tianyancha information, Tong Wentao was previously registered as the Chairman of Wuhan Gengcheng Real Estate Co., Ltd., but the registration was changed to another person in February 2023.

Since 2024, several officials of China Construction Bank have been investigated.

On January 16, Fan Ti, a senior deputy manager of the Guangdong Branch of China Construction Bank, was officially announced to be under investigation. In March this year, Li Xiaohong, former senior deputy manager of the Zhejiang Branch of China Construction Bank, and Li Hui, former Risk Director of the Ningxia Branch of China Construction Bank, were expelled from the Party for serious violations of discipline and suspected bribery crimes.

Last year, several individuals from China Construction Bank were investigated, expelled from the Party, or subjected to disciplinary actions.

They include Zhang Longquan, former senior commissioner of the Tianjin Branch, Li Xiukun, former branch manager of the Hebei Branch, Zhao Zhiran, senior commissioner of the Shenzhen Branch, Yi Jing’an, former deputy branch manager of the Shenzhen Branch, Lai Changjiang, former deputy branch manager of the Dalian Branch, Lao Xinjiang, former deputy branch manager of the Zhejiang Branch, and Fan Ti, former senior deputy manager of the Guangdong Branch.
