On November 12, 2024, millions of customers on the East Coast of the United States experienced a Verizon Fios network outage in the early hours of Tuesday. According to data from the third-party website Downdetector, which tracks real-time service interruptions, the user-reported problem map showed affected areas stretching approximately 300 miles from Philadelphia in Pennsylvania to Richmond in Virginia.
Outage.Report also released information about the Verizon Fios outage. Reports came in from various cities including Washington, Lewes, Miami, LaGrange, Baltimore, Silver Spring, Raleigh, Cherry Hill, Maple Shade, Sewell, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Alexandria, Annandale, Arlington, Ashburn, Fairfax, Falls Church, Henrico County, Norfolk, and 16 other cities.
“Your area is affected by a network outage or network maintenance. We do not yet have all the details. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Outage.Report said.
Verizon responded to a user inquiry about the outage on the social media platform X, stating, “We are trying to get all the information from our network team to provide everyone with the latest updates.”
A user from Maryland on the X platform posted an update from Verizon, stating that repair work had begun at 10:50 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday night and was expected to restore service by 10:58 a.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday.
A Verizon spokesperson told Newsweek via email at 7 a.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, “There was a network issue this morning that briefly interrupted service for some Verizon Fios customers in the Northeast. Our engineering team quickly restored service upon identifying the problem.”
Verizon Fios provides fiber optic network, television, and phone services. The company is the largest mobile service provider in the country.
