Republican Congressman John Rose’s 6-year-old son, Guy, stole the spotlight from him with his funny faces while sitting behind him at the podium during a recent speech. Guy’s antics, including sticking out his tongue, have now made him an internet sensation.
The U.S. public affairs cable network, C-SPAN, shared a video clip of Rose’s speech on social media on June 4, lasting about 5 minutes. Rose, representing the state of Tennessee, expressed his views on the conviction of former President Trump in the “hush money case.”
As Rose spoke, Guy sat behind him in his seat. Initially, Guy stared directly at the camera, grinning. Then, he made a series of amusing expressions, including sticking out his tongue, rolling his eyes, and shaking his head.
It didn’t take long for Guy to go viral on social media and become a trending meme.
In response to this, Aaron Fritschner, Communications Director for Virginia Democratic Congressman Don Beyer, wrote on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter): “Sorry for the slow email replies, I keep watching this over and over.”
Rose didn’t seem bothered by the incident. He posted on X, saying: “This is what happens when I tell my son Guy to smile at the camera for his brother.”
Afterward, Rose brought Guy to several TV interviews. Guy continued to make funny faces.
On the talk show “Fox & Friends,” Guy revealed that his actions during Rose’s speech were to make his 3-year-old brother, Sam, laugh.
Guy explained that one of the moves was to get Sam’s attention, and if you look closely, you’ll see he was making the S-A-M hand signals.
When host Steve Doocy asked what his father does all day, Guy humorously replied, “boring stuff.”
Guy recently graduated from kindergarten. He is spending this week with Rose in Washington D.C., while Sam is staying with Rose’s wife in their Tennessee home.
