The latest news from Epoch Times on May 15, 2025 states that the US Secretary of Health, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has announced that the new US Dietary Guidelines will be released before August, consisting of only four pages, with a primary focus on guiding Americans to consume “natural foods”.
The current US Dietary Guidelines span a lengthy 164 pages, indicating a significant reduction in content by the new administration.
These guidelines are developed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA), and they influence federal nutrition and school lunch programs, being updated every five years.
Kennedy stated during a hearing at the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Health on Wednesday, May 14, “We are scheduled to release it by January next year, but we are determined to finish it even before August.”
Kennedy has long been an advocate for healthy eating and has proposed gradually phasing out synthetic food colorings in the US Dietary Guidelines. His stance has garnered support from Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and President Trump.
The drafting of the new guidelines began during the previous administration. According to legal requirements, the guidelines must be completed by the end of the year.
Kennedy expressed concern that the guidelines drafted by the Biden administration were overly influenced by the food industry, making them “puzzling” to read.
“We will be creating a four-page dietary guidance document, aimed at informing people to eat natural foods, foods that are beneficial for the body,” Kennedy said.
He also informed lawmakers that the Health Department will be studying food additives and recommending that certain additives be listed on food packaging.
