On Tuesday, August 20, the Democratic National Convention in Chicago entered its second day at the United Center. Vice President Kamala Harris officially accepted the Democratic nomination to become the party’s candidate for the 2024 presidential election. The theme of the day’s activities was “A Bold Vision for America’s Future.”
Representatives from various states in the United States, including federal senators, emphasized unity and cooperation in interviews with The Epoch Times and New Tang Dynasty Television.
New York Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand expressed her hopes for America. “I hope that our country can come together to uphold the values of caring for our neighbors and treating others with kindness, and to bring positive energy and goodwill back to our communities,” said Senator Gillibrand.
“Vice President Harris will achieve a significant victory of her own,” stated Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut when asked by The Epoch Times reporter Jan Jekielek whether Harris could replicate Obama’s success.
Senator Blumenthal added, “I hope that America can uphold democracy and ultimately come together to heal the divides among people, and truly reclaim the essence of the American Dream, that anyone can succeed through hard work. Everyone should have the opportunity to pursue the American Dream.”
Arizona Democratic Senator and former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly shared what public service means to him. “For me, serving the nation meant serving in the United States Navy, then as a NASA astronaut for 15 years. Now, as a U.S. Senator, I continue on my path of service.”
Senator Kelly won a special election in Arizona and has been serving as a federal senator since December 2020. He remarked, “In some ways, if not all, these past three and a half years have been the most meaningful part of my life.”
He was considered one of the main contenders for the Democratic vice-presidential nomination in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Virginia Democratic Senator Tim Kaine is in the final sprint of his re-election campaign. Speaking to Epoch Times reporter Jan Jekielek, he expressed confidence but emphasized that nothing should be taken for granted.
